Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc.

Minutes, August 26, 2008 (morning meeting)

Vice-President Sandy Scheer called the meeting to order at 10:00 am.

Our visitor was Deanna Waltz’s young granddaughter Olivia, who showedus the quilt she designed around Kokopelli the Southwestern flute player.

Sandy thanked Joanne Schlaefer and Sue Chojnacki for the morning hospitality.

The Secretary’s Report was approved as read.

The Treasurer’s Report was excused.

Vice-President Jan Meachen reported that $61.00 and canned food collected at the Liz Lois meeting was given to The Neighbor’s Place.

The Friendship Quilt Project will be due September 23rd.

The Festival of Trees ornament patterns were available.

The Program was Paper-piecing techniques for the new block of the monthgiven by Jan Meachen.

Minutes: July 22, 2008 (morning meeting)

The meeting was called to order by President Pat Gaska.

Fran Grabko’s grandson, Caleb was the only guest.

Pat thanked Joyce Sczygelski, Lois Wilhelm and Dorothy Cournoyer for the morning

Hospitality.  Future hospitality sign up sheet was passed

Secretary’s Report was approved as read.

Treasurer reported the ending account balance was $11,571.52.

Vice-Presidents Sandy Scheer said the August 12th meeting will be at 6:30 pm at UWMC in Room 233.  It will be open to the pubic, cash donations accepted.

Correspondence received fliers from Piecemakers Quilt Guild.  Their quilt show at the Marshfield   Middle School will be October 31st to November 2nd..

Committee Reports:

  1. Nominations committee will meet August 6th.
  2. Lois Wilhelm said the Christmas Party will be at the American Legion on December 9th.

Old Business        

1.  Whitework Quilt was passed on to Geri Vieaux for hand quilting.

2. Calling Tree list was completed by Pat.  

New Business     

      1.  Fall Retreat sign up slip was passed.  Dates are Octoer 24, 25 & 26th.

Program on Neutral Fabrics was presented by Lois Wilhelm.

Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc.

Minutes of July 8, 2008 (evening meeting)

Pat called the meeting to Order after the picnic supper.

Carolyn Norris from New York was the guest.

President Pat thanked Sandy and Jan for organizing the Minnesota bus trip and tonight’s picnic at Sylvan Hill.  53 members attended.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Treasurer reported the total account balance as of June 8, 2008 was $11,967.04.

Vice President Jan said the August 12th meeting at UWMC will be open to the public, cash donations accepted. 

Committee Reports:

        1.  Friendship Block drawing was won by Pat Taylor.

        2  The 13 Colonies Quilt was presented by Joyce Stieber to Altrusa Club representative.

        3.  Quilt Show co-chairperson Joan Klosinski said, the 2009 Quilt Show theme will be

“All Roads Lead Home”.

New Business

       Nominations Committee  Chairperson is Kathy Lampe  and 2 volunteers, Jaunita Gauthier                   and Laurie Wengelski.

Log Jam in Mosinee is August 9th.   Ann Hagman asked for volunteers to demo quilt skills.  Billie Jean Lang and Betty Kolokowski volunteered.

Joan Klosinski brought in a quilt from a  Cutting Edge customer  to have the hand quilting and binding finished.  Guild members volunteered to complete the quilt.

Festival of Trees volunteers are Sue Ziebell, Bonnie Dalum and Mary Ellen Phillips.

The Program  was “Rising Star” Block of the Month, presented by Sandy Scheer.   Trading Cards were also exchanged.

Minutes: June 10, 2008 (evening meeting)

At 6:30pm, President Pat Gaska called the meeting to order.

Sue Ziebell’s son Zack was the only guest.

Pat welcomed new member Betty Kolokowski to the guild.

Billie Jean Lang and Sandy Moser were thanked for the evening’s hospitality.

Secretary’s Report was approved as read.  

Treasurer’s Report was read and passed for review.

Vice President Jan said the August 12th meeting would be at UWMC.

Correspondence received news of Almond quilt show July 26th and

Quilt Expo in Madison on September 26 & 27. 

Committee Reports:

        Work Session basted a quilt for Linda Haney, several foster quilts were made

         and hand quilting was done on the 13 Colonies quilt.

        Pat Gaska passed the 13 Colonies Quilt on to Lois Wilhelm to continue quilting.

        Joan Klosinski announced there is a need for one or two people to chair the Quilt Show judges committee.

 The Newsletter was distributed. 

New Business:

              Sue Ziebell offered to do printing and prep work for new member name tags. 

Billie Jean Lang, Joyce Stieber, Sandy Moser, Juanita Gauthier and Lois Wilhelm volunteered as the Christmas Party Committee.

Pat asked for 2 Newsletter writers, one to do a column on new members with photos and one to do a calendar of quilt events upcoming in the state, all to be forwarded to Lisa Nowicki.  No one volunteered.  Linda Haney volunteered to do book reviews for the  Newsletter. 

The evening program was on hand piecing given by Kathy Pease.

Trading cards were exchanged.

Minutes: May 27, 2008 (morning meeting)

President Pat Gaska called the meeting to Order at 10:00am.  

There were two quests present.  Betty Kolokowski and Deanna Waltz’s mother, Germain Foster.  A previous guest, Margaret Bennett became a member.

President Pat reported there would be a Board meeting, Tuesday, June 3, 6:30pm, Wausau Public Library. Thank you to Linda Haney and Joan Pagel for the morning hospitality.  A reminder was given that we have a coffee pot, cups, napkins, sugar and creamer in the storage room.  Pat explained how to sign a ticket for show and tell drawing.

Secretary’s report was approved as read.

Treasurer reported total account balances as $12,637.60 and membership at 102.   

Vice-President Sandy Scheer announced June 1st would be the cut off date for all Bus Trip ticket sales.  The bus will leave at 6:16 am, Thursday, June 26.  On June 24th  Kristi Droese will present her trunk show at the morning meeting and give a class in the afternoon.

Correspondence received fliers on The Quilt Expo in Madison September 11-13, and A Quilt Gathering show July 26 in Almond.

VIII. Committee Reports:

  1. Friendship Quilt block by Laurita Welsh is due July 8.
  2. 2009 raffle quilt kits should be turned in May 31st.

IX.Old Business        

1.  Pat Taylor reported the Fall Retreat will be at the Wisconsin Lion’s Camp on October 24 and 25th,  $88.00 includes everything but towels and washcloths.

X.New Business     

      1.  Sandy Scheer asked for a chairperson for the 8 inch Fall Block exchange.  Geri Vieaux and Shirley Trask volunteered.

The Program was presented by Jan and Sandy on Artist Trading Cards Swap and Half-Square Triangles.

Minutes of May 13, 2008 (evening meeting)

President Pat Gaska called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

Zack Ziebell was the guest.

Pat thanked Carolyn Kolton and Phyllis Bush for the evening hospitality.

Pat announced the next Board meeting will be 6:30 on June 3, at the Wausau library.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved with one correction.  Minutes are posted

On the PTQ web site.

Treasurer’s Report was read.  The total account balances were $12,780.30.  Membership is 102.

Vice President Jan reported there was still room on the Bus for Minnesota.  The bus will stop in Marshfield for pickup.

Correspondence that was received from the UNI of  Lincoln Quilt Center with an invitation to visit was discussed at two meetings and decided to not do as a guild road trip.

Committee Reports:

        1.  Work Session reported two fire quilts were tied, one fire quilt blocks laid out, and two foster quilts tied.         

        2.  Friendship Block was introduced by Laurita Welsh, called Winter’s Rose.  Due back  July 8th.

        3.  13 Colonies Quilt has six blocks to hand quilt and add binding to finish. The Altrusa Club would like the quilt by July 1st

        4.  Raffle Quilt kits should be completed and returned the end of May.

New Business pertained to the Fall Retreat’s possible October or November dates.

A hand count on date preferences was taken so Pat Taylor can make reservation decisions.

Sandy Sheer demonstrated the technique for making the next block of the month. 

The Program was given by Jan Meachen on Artist Trading Cards.

Minutes, April 22, 2008 (morning meeting)

Sandy Scheer called the meeting to order at 10:00a.m.

There were 4 guests present, Pat Nieman, Cindy Koopwan, Margaret Bennish and Pauline Gilpin.

The Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

The Treasurer’s Report was given. The total account balances were $12,769.63

The meeting was not held in the usual room so Morning Hospitality was not served.

Correspondence received flyer on the Hayward quilt show July 18 & 19.

Committee Reports:

  1. Laurita Welsh won 28 of Friendship Quilt blocks.  
  2. Joan Dombrowski is currently hand quilting the 13 Colonies Quilt.  In the PTQ minutes of May 22, 2007 a motion was passed to donate the quilt to the Altrusa Club. 

      Pat Andreas will inform the club that the quilt will be ready for their raffle this fall. 

  1. The PTQ 2009 raffle quilt kits have all been taken by members to assemble.   
  1.  Joan Pagel displayed the fire quilt top she sewed together from blocks laid out at the last  work session.
  1. May 27 is the deadline for the next Newsletter.

New Business:  The June trip bus will not stop in Abbottsford on June 26th.

Jan Meachen presented the Program on Artist Trading Cards and also reviewed the Drunkard’s Path Block of the Month.

April 8, 2008 (evening meeting)

Minutes:

Pat Gaska called the meeting to Order at 6:30pm.

The Guests were Deb Busko and Angela Burger.

Pat thanked Sandy Mosure and Billiejean Lang for the evening hospitality. 

Thank you to Jan Meachen and Sandy Scheer for chairing the last March meeting

and the up-coming April meeting.

Secretary’s Report was given and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read and passed for member review.  The total account balance is $12,863.39.

Correspondence received an invitation from the University of Neb. to visit their Lincoln Quilt Center.  A possible future road trip was discussed.

Also received was a notice of the Iola quilt show on April 26, 2008.

St. Barnibus Quilters Without Borders sent a Thank you for our donation

to the Mongolian Quilters.

Committee Reports:

Work Session – Chair person Marlene Plaisance will be stepping down in June.  Sue Chojnacki  volunteered as a replacement.

A Fire quilt top was laid out at last work session,  Joan Pagel took the 5” blocks home to sew together. 

Friendship Blocks were collected by Joyce Steiber.  Drawing will be April 22.

13 Colonies Quilt needed more hand quilting to be done.  The question arose as to

commitment made to Altrusa Club for raffle quilt.  Past Minutes will be reviewed .

The 2009 Raffle Quilt kits are being completed by members in good numbers.

Quilt Show date set for September 25 & 26, 2009.

Program was the Drunkard’s Path presented by  Pat Gaska.

Minutes: March 25, 2008 (morning meeting)

Vice-President Sandy Scheer called the meeting to order at 10:00am.

Maureen Mantor was the only guest and she became a member.

The Secretary’s Report was read and approved.  The minutes will be posted on the Guild web site.

The Treasurer’s Report was passed for review by the members.

Sandy Scheer thanked Geri View and Pat Taylor for the morning hospitality.  Request for volunteers for future meetings was made and the sign-up tablet was passed.

Correspondence received:  McCall Quilting magazine.  Waupaca Day details and attendance forms were also received.

Committee Reports:

  1. Friendship Quilt Project is due April 22nd.
  2. 2009 raffle quilt block kits were available for sewing.
  1. Jan Meachen is contacting Darlene Zimmerman and Liz Lois for future programs.

Jan also mentioned that the bus trip registration form is in the Newsletter.   Non-members will have to pay an additional $15.00 and the $40.00 bus fee, which includes the show ticket.  Remember to eat supper at the show because the bus will not stop on the way home. 

Old Business        

  Sign up forms available for Friendship Day in Waupaca, May 8, deadline is April 7th.

 

 The Program was given by Joan Klosinski and Jan Meachen showing new spring quilting items available in the shops.  Betty Haase reviewed English Paper Piecing for the Block of the Month.

 

Regular Show and Tell was about spring quilts members like to display in spring.

Minutes of  March 11, 2008 (evening meeting)

President Pat Gaska called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

Donna Blankenheim was welcomed as the only guest and she became a member.

The President reported on topics discussed at the Tuesday, March 4, Board meeting.

The quilt show, (keep 2-day alternate year schedule, also consider a different approach to judging, separate treasurer for show to be retained with an Oct. 30 deadline to report show income);

Friendship quilt drawings to be held April 22, July 8, Sept. 23, Dec. 9, 2008, March 9, 2009, winner has 4 weeks to prepare next pattern; next meeting: Tuesday, June 3, 6:30, Wausau library.

Lost were a pair of sunglasses, no one claimed them. Found were the Long-lost quilting stencils. The storage area was cleaned out and we are allowed 1 and ½ shelf + floor space.

A hospitality thank you to Ann Hagmann and Betsy Doran. Next time will be Sandy Mosure and Billiejean Lang.

The April 22nd meeting will be in another room at the mall due to scheduling conflict.

Secretary’s Report was read.

Treasurer’s Report was read and passed for viewing.

Vice President Jan Meachen  reported that the non-members for the bus trip will be accepted after June 1st.  We should be on the bus at 6:16.

Correspondence received a letter from the Waupaca Guild regarding a Friendship Day, Thursday, May 8.  Hayward quilt show will be July 18.  

Quilters without Borders sent a donation request. They teach sewing to women in Mongolia.  Maggie Ball wrote about an International quilt show needing funds and our Guild could participate by sending one 6” square of material and a monetary donation.  A motion was made by Barbara Pawlowski to send $100.00 check; the motion was seconded and all approved.      

Committee Reports:

       1.  Friendship Blocks were passed and are due April 22nd.

        2.  13 Colonies Quilt – Joyce Stieber will bring the quilt to National Quilt Day for hand quilting demonstration.

        3.  Raffle Quilt – Joanne Schlaefer had block kits available and they should be brought back in May.

 

Lisa Nowicki had the Newsletter to distribute.

Betty Haase displayed a Foster quilt made at the work session.

Program was English Paper Piecing presented by Betty Haase.

Minutes: February 26, 2008 (morning meeting)

The meeting was called to order at 10:00am, by President, Pat Gaska.

Two guests were welcomed, Jenny Garver and Annette Mroczenski, both ladies became members at that meeting.  

Our President  Thanked Joanne Schlaefer and Sue Chojnacki for the morning hospitality.  The  next morning meeting hospitality will be by Pat Taylor and  Geri Vieu.

Pat mentioned the back closet was being cleaned out and asked members to take whatever discarded items they wanted.

Pat reminded members to wear our name tags and to be respectful and not visit during meetings.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read and passed for member review.  Ann Hagman, reported that

the audit of  the Guild accounts was completed.

Jan Meachen reported on the June 25th Bus Trip to Rochester, Mn.  Cost with admission

will be approximately  $35.00 to $40.00 each.

Correspondence was received from Quilter’s Without Boarders asking for  support.  Pat said Policies and Procedures would be checked to see if  our Guild could donate money.

Committee Reports:

  1. Friendship Quilt Project: Ginny Brown had the new block to distribute,  due April 22.

2.   13 Colonies Quilt was taken by Joyce  Sczygelski to hand quilt.

       3.  Spring Retreat was reported as a fun and productive time.

       4.  The 2009 Raffle quilt block was displayed and kits to sew the blocks were available.                          

       5.  A Fire quilt from the Work session was taken by Laurie Wengelski to finish the binding.

Old Business        

  1. National Quilting Day volunteer sign up sheet was passed.
  2. Kathy Christianson explained and demonstrated the February block of the month, called Temptation Tree. 

New Business      

      1.   Laurita Welsh was presented with a lap quilt that guild member had made blocks for.

Program was “Fabric Twined Rugs” presented by Marjorie Pope.

Minutes, February 12, 2008 (evening meeting)

Vice-President, Jan Meachen called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

The guests of the evening were, Peggy Schwamman, Darlene Roseth, Florina Ackley, Betsy Doran and Babs Zerhen.  They also became new members.

Vice-President, Sandy Scheer reported the December 4th Board meeting approved the 2008-2009 budget.  The next Board meeting will be March 4th, 6:30pm, at the Wausau Public Library.

Thank you to Catherine Griesmer and Betty Haase for the evening hospitality.  Hospitality for March 11th, evening will be by Ann Hagman and her sister and new member Betsy Doran.

Jan Stubinger was presented a gift and Thank you for her service as a Past Vice-President.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Treasurer, Ann Hagman reported the total account balances are $11,192.90. The report was read and passed around.   Ann also explained our new Tax Exempt number and the filling of IRS form #990.   The Guild accounts are going to be audited this Spring by an Independent Auditor.

Jan Meachen reported on the planned bus trip to the Minnesota Quilt Show, June 25th, in Rochester.

Old Business:

National Quilting Day, Saturday, March 15, from 9:30am to 3:00pm.  Julia Stavran passed

sign up sheet for volunteers.

New Business:

Nekoosa Quilt Show will be March 15th.

Jan Meachen presented the instructional block of the month for March.

Guest Speaker, Louise Schotz presented her program “The Question is the Driver”.

Minutes: January 22, 2007 (morning meeting)

Vice-Presidents, Jan Meachen and Sandy Scheer  called the meeting to order at 10:00am.

There were no guests present.

Pat Taylor was given her gift and thanked for her past service as a Guild Officer.   Jan also thanked Priscilla Barker, Ginny Brown, Pat Andreas for hospitality. Joanne Schlaefer and Sue Chojnacki will be hospitality volunteers for the February 26th morning meeting. The next Board Meeting will be Tuesday, March 4th, at 6:30pm, at the Wausau Public Library (Children’s section, 1st floor).

Sue Chojnacki read the Secretary’s report, one correction was made.

Ann Hagman gave the Treasurer’s report. The total account balances are $11,317.08.

VII. Vice-Presidents Jan Meachen, Sandy Scheer reported that February 13 quilt artist  Louise Schotz will present her program.

Committee Reports:

Friendship Quilt Block by Cheryl Meyer was won by Laurita Welsh, who in turn gave it to Ginny Brown.

      Work session for January was cancelled due to weather.  In the future there will be no cancellations because the money to reserve the room cannot be refunded on short notice.   

2009 Raffle Quilt was explained by Joan Schlaefer. 

Program was the Block of the Month presented by Jan Meachen and a Video of Western Quilt Show by Laurita Welsh.

Minutes, January 8, 2008 (evening meeting)

President, Pat Gaska called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

Four guests were welcomed Linda Haney, Peg Schumann, Cecil Sanborn & Darlene  ?

Pat reminded Officers of the next Board meeting on March 4th, 6:30pm. at  the Wausau Library.

Pat thanked Ami Anderson and Rosemary Bauknecht  for the evening hospitality treats. Thank you also to the Christmas Party committee,

Keepsake committee, and Guild Officers of the past two years.  A welcome

was extended to the new Officers.

Secretary’s report was read and approved after Phyllis Bush and Carolyn Kolton’s  names were added to the Raffle Quilt committee

Treasurer, Ann Hagman, gave the treasurer’s report. The total balances are $6,885.63

Correspondence received Thank you letters from the Gorski family and Deb White for fire quilts, thank you from North Central Health Care for the personal items donated from our Christmas party and Marathon Social Services for the 29 foster quilts.

13 Colonies Quilt was brought and shown by Joyce Steiber.  Laurita Welsh and Ginny Brown will take it home to do more hand quilting on it.

Lois Wilhelm and Joan Klosinski explained the retreat project.

Sally Holzem had a block made up of the 2009 Raffle quilt to show and tell.

National Quilt Day, March 15th, volunteers  are Julia Stavran, Lois Nieslowski and Joan Putzer.

New Business:

Lois asked for input on speakers for possible luncheon date with Pine Tree Guild and Stevens Point Quilt guild.

The Guild Coffee Pot is missing from meeting room closet.  Our large stapler will also be kept in that closet.

Jan Meachen presented the evening program.  First block of nine, “Block of the Month” project.  The block is called Stars & Pine trees.

Trudy Gibbs and Sue Ziebell each won a “Show and Tell” door prize.

Pat adjourned the meeting before 10:00pm.    

 

Minutes,  November 27, 2007 (morning meeting)

President Pat Gaska called the meeting to order at 10:00am.

There were no guests present.

Pat thanked Dorothy Cournoyer, Marlene Plaisance, and Juanita Gauthier for arranging

the morning’s hospitality.  January’s hospitality committee is Pricilla Barker, Ginny Brown and Pat Andreas.  Thanks also went to Sue Ziebell for gifts she gave to quilt show workers. 

Secretary’s report was read and approved after one correction was made.

The report can be read on the guild web page.

The Treasurer’s report was read and circulated for review.  The total account balances are $8,475.44. 

Vice-President, Kathy Lampe, thanked everyone for their efforts in helping

her with the meeting programs.  

Committee Reports:

Cheryl Meyer introduced the new Friendship Quilt Block.  It’s a vanilla and chocolate Drunkards Path which will be due January 22nd. 

Twin Oaks Spring Retreat sign-up folder was passed.

      Work session reported they will meet to tie quilts on January 8th instead of New Years Day. 

Old Business        

2009 Raffle quilt co-chairs are Sally Holzem, Charlotte Boehmer, Joanne Schlaefer, Sue Chojnacki, Phyllis Bush and Carolyn Kolton.

New Business     

     March 15th is National Quilting Day.  Volunteers are needed to organize the activities

of the day.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

The Program was to share a favorite quilt book and show a project from the book, if you’ve made one.

November 13, 2007 (evening meeting)

Minutes:

Pat Gaska called the meeting to order at 6:30pm.

Jan Meachen introduced the evening guest, Joan Pagel.

President, Pat report there would be a board meeting – Tuesday, Dec 4, 6:30pm, Wausau public library, budget to be discussed. Pat also thanked Sue Ziebell and Bonnie Dalum for the meeting

Hospitality treats. At this time no one has signed up for February Hospitality.

Gifts were given to Sue Ziebel and Barb Hase for chairing quilt show.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read and copies were passed out. Total account balances are $9,276.44.

Kathy Lampe, reminded members to bring a favorite book report to the next meeting.

Correspondence: a Thank you note was received from quilt show judge, Marita Miller.

Committee Reports:

1. Friendship Blocks – Cheryl Meyer is working on block for next meeting.

2. Sue Ziebell had made "Thank You" gifts for everyone involved with the quilt show.

Barb Hase is writing a Wrap Up Report .

3. Christmas Party reservations are due December 1st. The Keepsake will be laid out this week.

The Christmas Block exchange is due next meeting, November 27th.

    4. Newsletter deadline is November 27th.

    5. Work session had the best turn out in a long time.

Old Business: Those attending Julie Hendickson’s Trunk Show agreed it was wonderful.

New Business:

Joan Klosinski and Faye Slewzewski are the next quilt show Co-Chairs,

They are looking for trainees to work with them and learn how to Chair

The 2011 quilt show.

Spring Retreat on February 22, 23 and 24, was announced by Lois Wilhelm.

She had the sign up book to pass.

Program was the Halloween/Autumn Block Exchange and autumn show and tell.
